3D Science - Finding the Scientist in your Students
3 Dimensional (3D) science is built on the idea that science should not be taught as content to memorize but as a set of practices and ideas that students must use to be able to reason through novel phenomena. It is the basis of the 6-8 SEEd standards and will be the basis of future science standards. In this session we will work together with the 3 Dimensions to reason through a scientific phenomenon.

SEEd Resources & 3D Science with 8.2
I will share with teachers the SEEd resources that are available throughout the State We will look at 8.2 through the lens of the Cross Cutting Concepts and the actions of the Science & Engineering Practices. Teachers will try things out as their students would and leave with resources and experience with 8.2.

Three-Dimesnsional Learning: Stability and Change in Ecosystems
Teachers will engage with a phenomenon for SEEd Strand 6.4 : Stability and Change in Ecosystems. Teachers will gather evidence, use science and engineering practices and cross-cutting concepts to construct an explanation for the presented phenomenon. Three-dimensional teaching and learning will be modeled so that participants will come away with a better understanding of the new SEEd framework and how to engage in three-dimensional science in a K-12 classroom.

SEEd Update for Clark Planetarium Teacher Resource Kit Activities
Do you use Clark Planetarium’s Seasons and Moon Phases and/or Kinesthetic Astronomy teacher resource kit in your classroom? In this session you will experience changes to the kit activities that will better align them to the new 6th grade SEEd standards, specifically, Standard 6.1.1. These changes will help your students develop and use a model of the Sun-Earth-Moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the Sun and Moon, and seasons using the kit materials.

6th Grade SEEd Student Science Performances with Density
Density and the causes and consequences of changes in density are topics woven through several Strands of the new 6th grade SEEd Standards. In this session you will experience activities that show the effect of heat energy on density, convection currents that result from changes in density and model the role of density in the cycling of water through Earth’s systems. We will also provide each school that has one or more 6th grade teachers attend this session with a classroom set of density tanks that are used in some of these activities.
